ถาม : คำกริยาอะไรบ้าง ที่อยู่ในประโยค Active Voice แล้วไม่สามารถเปลี่ยนเป็น Passive Voice ได้ ขอให้บอกมา?
ตอบ : นักศึกษาที่น่ารักครับ……โดยหลักทั่วไปแล้ว กริยาที่สามารถเปลี่ยนจาก Active Voice ไปเป็น Passive Voice ได้นั้นคือ “กริยาที่มีกรรมารับ (Transitive Verb)” แต่ก็มีกริยาอยู่บางตัว หรือ บางชนิดที่ไม่สามารถเป็น Passive Voice ได้นั่นคือ
1)อกรรมกริยา (Intransitive Verb) คือ กริยาที่ไม่ต้องการกรรมมารับ นำมาแต่ง เป็น Passive Voice ไม่ได้เช่น
He slept there. เขานอนหลับที่นั่น
เราไม่สามารถเปลี่ยนเป็น Passive ได้ว่า………………..
There was slept by him.
(เหตุผลก็คือ there ไม่ใช่ object ของ slept แต่เป็นคำวิเศษณ์ (Adverb) บอกสถานที่ต่างหาก และ slept ก็เป็นอกรรมกริยาด้วย)
They go to school every day.
พวกเขาไปโรงเรียนทุกวัน
เราไม่อาจแต่งเป็น Passive ได้ว่า………
School is gone to by them every day.
(เหตุผลก็มีนัยเช่นเดียวกับข้อแรก)
2)สกรรมกริยา (Transitive Verb) คือกริยามีกรรมมารับ (บางตัว) ไม่สามารถเปลี่ยนเป็น Passive ได้ เช่น
Jack had his breakfast. แจ็คทานอาหารเช้าแล้ว
เราไม่อาจแต่งเป็น Passive ได้ว่า…………..
His breakfast was had by jack.
3)กริยาซึ่งไม่สมบูรณ์ความด้วยตนเอง (Verb of Incomplete Predication) จะเปลี่ยนให้เป็น Passive Voice ไม่ได้ เช่น
He became a king. เขาได้เป็นพระราชาแล้ว
ไม่สามารถเปลี่ยนเป็น Passive ได้ว่า…………
A king was become by him.
I am a student. ผมเป็นนักศึกษา
ไม่อาจเปลี่ยนเป็น Passive ได้ว่า………..
A student is been by me.
(เหตุผลก็คือทั้ง King และ Student เป็น Complement ของ become และ am ไม่ใช่เป็น Object ของ become หรือของ am)
ข้อยกเว้น : กริยาที่ไม่ต้องการกรม (Intransitive Verb) อาจเปลี่ยนจาก Active ไปเป็น Passive ได้ ถ้ากริยาตัวนั้นมี Preposition และ Object (ทั้งนี้เพราะ Intransitive + Object จะมีผลเท่ากับ “Transitive Verb” ทันที) เช่น
(1) They will look after her well.
พวกเขาจะเลี้ยงดูหล่อนอย่างดี
=She will be well looked after.
หล่อนจะได้รับการเลี้ยงดูเป็นอย่างดี
(2) I don’t like people looking at me.
ผมไม่ชอบผู้คนมามองผม
= I don’t like being looked at.
ผมไม่ชอบถูกมอง (=ไม่ชอบให้ใครมอง)
(3) He has turned down all our suggestions.
เขาไม่ปฏิเสธข้อเสนอแนะของพวกเรา
=All our suggestion have been turned down.
